I was going to ask what they meant, but then I noticed the alt tags. And then I was going to ask why the last two symbols both said "Charon" (somehow failing to notice that one said "astroNOMical" and the other said "astroLOGical") but then I decided to visit the URL that was appearing in the infobar when I moused over the images, and there I found a page with more information.
Cool!
Then I wondered why you didn't just link to that page. And where was the URL coded in? Not in the alt tags, not in a title tag... so I viewed the page source. And... it seems you *did* make it a link. Which my browser is not displaying as a link for some reason. Huh.
(Well, to be precise, this isn't my browser; this is IE on Mom's computer. I usually check LJ briefly on Mom's computer before turning my own machine on later in the day.)
OK, it looks like browsers do not agree about what to do with a table or images inside a hyperlink (in fact, mine doesn't even agree with itself) so I've reformatted. Hopefully everyone will be able to read this now.
You're more likely to be on a moon of Jupiter, unless you're planning on being in some sort of Red Spot storm-diving station. The fascinating thing about extraterrestrial astrology is that as the local satellites separate from their planet, the Moon becomes just part of the Earth (in the same position in the sky, etc.). Even better, from Pluto the inner planets are all effectively part of the Sun, which takes about 20 years to change houses.
How about the other large Saturn moons: you've got Ti, Te, and E(nceladus), so we need Mimas (obvious), Dione (Greek, so delta, right?), Rhea (Rho), Hyperion (large but not spherical - and what letter does it start with?), and Iapetus.
And I'm still not thrilled with Ti vs. Te - could we give Titan serifs or something? Maybe a hat.
Hyperion starts with upsilon. Iapetus starts with Iota, so you'd definitely want serifs there. What bout circling the cross-point of Titan to indicate its atmosphere?
I've beat you to it. I made some changes to make them look less letter-like, and I think they came out pretty well (I'm especially fond of Titan and Dione). As for the 5 large Uranian moons, I'm thinking that M, A, and T would be squashed into the top of the symbol (not that you would notice for T) with a line down to the circle. Miranda looks a little like a Klingon Bird of Prey, but that's OK :). Not sure about U and O - the same, or have the curve come down to just above the circle, or even just below?
Of course. %Pi; is a real pain actually - the two best options I've come up with are putting the trident on top and putting it sideways as the crossbar, sticking out to the right.
Read this first: http://www.valentino-salvato.net/astrology/articles/extraterrestrial_astrology.htm (I need to send that guy a pointer to my page now that it's done.) There are apparently a lot of issues about how exactly you define the zodiac - I didn't follow it all. Meanwhile I'm working on a pictorial version of Wikipedia's list of Solar System objects by mass: http://www.suberic.net/~dmm/graphics/moons/size.html I need to draw some asteroid symbols - those seem to exist already. And I don't know what to do about the big TNOs - they may get official symbols later.
It seems that the asteroids are unlikely to be close enough to be of astrological significance unless you're on one. Which could mean that Dactyl needs a symbol more than Ceres does.
Astrologically, yes. I just meant that I wanted to fill in the gaps on the size page. (And there are already people doing Asteroid Astrology: http://www.treehousemountain.com/)
