Not sure what you mean. I considered making the square hexagonal to more closely mimic the in-game rupees but I thought the simpler design with a hexagonal shell felt more like a currency.

yeah. Diamond shaped mostly because the rupees always looked kinda pointy. alt of things in zelda look pointy..

I've actually had these in my head for a while but Adam Cadre's recent tweet (https://twitter.com/adamcadre/status/322065739764871168) regarding bitcoins was the impetus to get them posted. (Bitcoin has a symbol of course but it's an unexciting B/$ mashup.)

Not that I've found or invented. A zorkmid coin has been minted but (like most currency) it doesn't bear a currency symbol. (Likewise with some excellent rupee banknotes on deviantart.)
